Hi, Watchers/Viewers & Deviants!
As those of you who have been viewing my comic book creations (VAMPEER, KOLMEC and ALPHA KORPS) know - I have indicated that the VAMPEER Graphic Novel would be complete sometime in 2014 and that the KOLMEC Graphic Novel would be published a year later, in 2015. This will not be the case.
Not to worry loyal fans (2 or 3 of you), there's a perfect explanation to my delaying these two awesome and spectacular comic book properties - or else I would not delay a momentous chance to showcase these mysterious, mythical, and mayhem addicted ancient immortals to the anxiously awaiting world! Before I get to the reasons as to why this delay - it is my intention for the VAMPEER Graphic Novel to most likely be completed and published in late 2015 or early 2016 - let me say that it has always been my intention, my passion, to produce nothing but the best in visuals. Incidentally, THAT is probably the main reason to the delay.
Most of you who have followed me here on DA since late 2009 understand my passion for the comic book medium. Likewise, those of you who are of like mind appreciate what it means to produce nothing but the best written stories, coolest visuals, and a final product that will grab, entertain, and captivate the reader!
No. I am not saying that I have created such works of art - not yet, at least
What I am saying is simply that in order for me to ensure that I produce nothing but the best stories and the best artwork possible - a product that will be marketable and, yes, with intentions to sell worldwide first via the internet, the printed medium, and ultimately via other peripheral entertainment venues
- I have to ensure I deliver nothing but the BEST product I can possibly create. I will not do it otherwise. But in all seriousness, I will complete VAMPEER and KOLMEC Graphic Novels for my own gratification and if they are somewhat successful once published, that will be icing on the cake!
Having said all of the above, I have decided to go back to school and pursue a Master of Fine Arts program in Illustration, specializing in the Graphic Novel. There is plenty that I will learn from such a program but more importantly, it will greatly enhance my skills in the craft, affording me the ability to produce a more professional VAMPEER Graphic Novel - the same should be said for the ancient savage, KOLMEC's Graphic Novel. And that, my Deviant friends, is one of the reasons I am delaying completion of the mentioned GNs.
Another, more personal reason: The university I will be attending has eluded me for several decades - for reasons that I give credit to no one but myself. Incidentally, if there is anything that you have a passion for and you do not seek it out, then the one to blame is none other than yourself...we can justify delaying, postponing, and procrastinating that which we desire the most by simply looking for excuses, i.e., "I have a family and my day-job demands too much of me..." or "I am too busy with everyday life stuff to find and devote the time it requires for me to get it done...there's simply not enough time for me to pursue my dreams!". Well, I have used those excuses for far too long (of course, I made a professional career in other, none-related fields) - all, probably, with good justification but you know what? I have always found a few minutes or a few hours here and there - once a year or once every several years - to do a sketch or a series of sketches. Why? Comic book drawing has always been my passion. It has been since I can remember as a pre-teen growing up in San Francisco, California; it has continued throughout my young adult life and it is a passion now that I am nearing almost 40 years of wanting to be a comic book artist/creator. In my mind, I have always known that I would gravitate toward, and end up as an illustrator - certainly as a comic book creator/artist - sooner or later in my life. No. It is never too late if you ask me. No matter how old one is, it is never too late to do what you want to do. Go for it!
In January 2014, I will begin the MFA program in illustration at the university that I had originally planned to attend after high school way back when - it was called a "college" back then. This will be a dream come true for me. There are no words that can express the excitement and jubilation I feel to have finally "grabbed the bull by the horns" and decided to pursue this educational opportunity.
So, there you have it, fellow Deviants. Those are the reasons VAMPEER and KOLMEC will have to patiently wait for this would-be artist to get his act together in order to give these two awesome characters - albeit, from two different eras - the Light of Day!
And the name of the university, you ask? HA! You thought I'd forget, huh? Not hardly - just wanted to build the suspense
It is now called the Academy of Art University, with physical locations in San Francisco, California. You can find them on cyberspace here: www.academyart.edu/

Cheers, thanks and stay tuned - I guarantee comic book fans this:

In the mean time check out VAMPEER here on DA
- Incidentally, I had to use the number "1" following the name VAMPEER since someone has stolen my the domain name I originally created, www.vampeer.com, in 2000 with Omnis Network - which I later (Spring 2009) canceled the hosting for and apparently let the 10 year registration expired (of course, I was not aware that once the registration expires on a domain it is FREE for anyone to take - that is wrong, particularly because I created the name VAMPEER back in late 1993 and the website www.vampeer.com in the Spring of 2000). But that is another column.
